AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY HYDRATION

Here’s to a fun, healthy time at the fields this week!

Cara Perkins Nelson - AFPA Certified Nutrition Consultant

During these hot baseball days, staying hydrated is more important than ever. Water

isn’t the only way to keep up your hydration.

Here are some healthy and easy ways to stay hydrated all day…

1. Water, Water, Water

Add a pinch of sea salt for some healthier sodium, and your favorite fruit for some extra

flavor.

2. Snacks

Fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, pineapple and grapes contain

electrolytes, and cucumbers, oranges, strawberries, and lettuce are packed with water

and nutrients.  It’s also good to eat some protein along with these natural sugar snacks.

The protein will help level out the way the sugar is processed in the body.

3. Coconut Water

A great natural electrolyte drink!  Be sure to read the ingredients and avoid sugar and

chemicals that you don’t recognize.

4. Herbal Teas

Caffeine-free options are great any time of day.

What to stay away from…

Sugary & Caffeinated Drinks!

They can actually dehydrate you and refined sugar does more harm than good.

Sports drinks - they are full of harmful chemicals. Water and fruit do the trick, and will

give you the same results but in a much healthier way.

Energy drinks - they are also full of harmful chemicals and the amount of caffeine can

cause additional health concerns, especially in the heat.
